ذكرت تقارير إخبارية اليوم أن ريتشارد روكفلر نجل الملياردير الأمريكي ديفيد روكفلر لقي حتفه صباح يوم الجمعة 13 يونيو 2014 بعد تحطم طائرة ذات محرك واحد كان يقودها خارج أحد المطارات بالقرب من مدينة نيويورك.

وذكرت صحيفة نيويورك ديلي نيوز أن ريتشارد روكفلر "65 عاما" كان يزور والده الذي احتفل أمس الخميس بعيد ميلاده رقم 99 ثم استقل الطائرة عائدا إلى منزله في ولاية ماين شمال غرب الولايات المتحدة حيث اصطدمت طائرته بصف أشجار بعد إقلاعه مباشرة.

وقال متحدث باسم الأسرة "هذه مأساة مروعة.. العائلة مصدومة. ريتشارد كان عضوا رائعا وعزيزا في الأسرة. لقد كان طيارا خبيرا وقد طار سنوات عديدة". يذكر أن ديفيد روكفلر هو حفيد جون روكفلر مؤسس شركة ستاندارد أويل للنفط ويعد من أغنى أغنياء العالم.

Richard Rockefeller, a noted doctor and philanthropist, died Friday morning when a plane he was piloting crashed near Westchester County Airport, authorities said.
Mr. Rockefeller, a great-grandson of Standard Oil Company co-founder John D. Rockefeller, was the only person on board, authorities said. There were no other injuries.
The plane, bound for Portland, Maine, crashed shortly after taking off, at around 8:10 a.m., airport officials said.
Mr. Rockefeller, 65 years old, was an advisory trustee of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. He taught medicine in Portland from 1982 to 2000, according to the fund's website.
He served as the chairman of the board of advisors for Doctors Without Borders for 21 years, before stepping down in 2010. He helped set up the organization's presence in the U.S. and helped it secure funding, the organization said.


Bad weather, poor vision factors in Rockefeller crash

Rockefeller's Piper Meridian single-engine turboprop crashed in the yard of a house on Cottage Avenue in Purchase, N.Y., a hamlet about a mile from New York's border with Greenwich. Rockefeller was the only person on board.
The plane, which narrowly missed a two-story home, collided with trees and terrain before crashing in front of a horse stable where two witnesses gave accounts to investigators.
Examination of the accident site, as well of witness statements, indicates the plane came out of the clouds immediately above trees. The airplane's outboard section of the left wing then struck the first tree, located 60 feet above the ground, and then struck another tree on the inboard section of the same wing.
Witnesses then saw the airplane break apart in a cloud of blue "smoke" that smelled like "diesel" fuel, according to the report.
At the time of the crash the airplane was carrying 60 gallons of Jet-A fuel.
The fuselage had traveled 280 feet down a wreckage path and came to a rest on its left side against a tree. The impact of that crash destroyed the cockpit and instrument panel.
Pieces of trees that where clippes were scattered over the crash site with, a 10-foot length of trunk broken off and carried 50 feet down the wreckage path.
Examination of the site by investigators revealed a strong order of fuel. No evidence of an in-flight or post-impact fire was discovered. All major components of the plane were accounted for.
The plane, which was manufactured in 2001, had recently passed inspection on June 3, 2014, with 1,927 total aircraft hours.





Richard’s father, David Rockefeller, is the oldest living member of the Rockefeller family. He is the only living grandchild of John D. Rockefeller. His net worth as of September 2013 is a reported $2.8 billion.
