LEXINGTON - Authorities responded to a small airplane that crashed in an alfalfa field just north of Lexington around 10:15 Wednesday morning.
There were two people on the plane, including the pilot, Robert Roberts of Nixa, Mo., and his brother, Ronny Roberts of Lebanon, Miss. The pilot received a minor injury to the forehead and refused transport.

Roberts said he and his brother were flying in to Lexington from their home state of Missouri to pick up a hunting dog. As the plane approached Lexington's Jim Kelly Field, it ran low on fuel at about 4,000 feet. Roberts said he attempted to land at the airport anyway but soon realized he would not make it, with windy conditions complicating matters.
Roberts said he looked for a green area to attempt a landing and saw an alfalfa field near road 757 and North Adams. Just as the plane was about to land, however, the pilot saw hay bales and attempted to pull up. Winds forced the plane down anyway.
The Federal Aviation Administration has been contacted and will conduct an investigation into the crash. The Lexington Volunteer Fire Department, Dawson County Sheriff's Office, and Lexington Police Department all responded to the scene.
