Kuwait Airways Boeing 747-200

Boeing 747-200, Manston Airport

This is a Boeing 747-200 built and delivered to Kuwait Airways in 1982. It is registered N309TD, a number it was assigned when it first came to Manston. It is currently owned by an American company who bought it for its scrap value. A search online revealed it was previously registered 9K-ADD, and was repeatedly leased to Garuda Indonesia Airways.

This explore was always going to be an interesting one. Early one morning, me and TinRibs headed over to Manston Airport in a quest to explore this Boeing 747. How do you even go about breaking into an aeroplane in the first place? Getting to it too. Security? Fences? It wasn't as bad as we expected but we did plan for the toughest challenges that could be blocking us getting in it. Its located with another Boeing 747 and a smaller aeroplane, didn't bother with the smaller as it was pretty stripped from looking inside. The other Boeing, we got in but found in the process of being stripped for spares so didn't really bother.

Once we worked out how to get in, climbed up the ladder in the fuselage then discovered we weren't the first. Unfortunately it is quite vandalised. Bit of a shame but the cockpit remains in top condition. I didn't really go mad with the photos this time. It was fun just playing around with lifejackets, oxygen masks and other things remaining in the plane.

Inside was very dark. We didn't really risk opening any shutters in case we may be spotted but, once outside, would anybody have seen the shutters open? The windows are quite small from a distance. I didn't see a point taking pictures of the seats as, I'm sure, most of you have been on an aeroplane and know what its like. Wasn't anything special. Then you get to the cockpit. A treat of analogue gauges and switches!

All in all, this was a top explore. I doubt I would have the chance to be able to look around inside an aeroplane like this again so, made it worth while. The size of them, you could easily spend a few hours mooching around!
